French LFP President Sends Clubs Email Detailing Financial Situation Of L1, L2

French Professional Football League (LFP) President Frédéric Thiriez sent an email to all Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 clubs “concerning the financial situation of French football at the end of the ’14-15 season,” according to Étienne Moatti of L’ÉQUIPE. The email states: “In Ligue 1, the net culminated deficit of €56 million compared to €103 million last season, is a 46% reduction of debt. In Ligue 2, culminated losses rose to €11 million from €10 million last season. The totals for L1+L2 is negative €67 million, compared to €93 million in ‘13-14, an improvement of 28%. These results can be mainly explained by decreasing the controlling payroll by €25 million and higher capital gains on €42 million worth of transfers.” Still, French clubs have “netted their seventh consecutive negative fiscal year” (L’ÉQUIPE, 1/26).
