RFEF Boss's Son Accused By Former CONMEBOL President Of Extortion

Former CONMEBOL President Eugenio Figueredo said before a judge in Montevideo, Uruguay that CONMEBOL Dir General Gorka Villar "was a principal figure in suspected extortion of Uruguayan clubs," according to AS. Gorka Villar, the son of Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) President Ángel María Villar, allegedly "used his father's influence to pressure clubs to withdraw claims." Figueredo said, "Mr. Gorka Villar, taking advantage of his connection to his father, used his father's influence to make FIFA support the Uruguayan FA (AUF) through coercive notes. I would say that from the moment Gorka Villar entered, he was the right-hand man of Nicolás Leoz and Juan Ángel Napout [both ex-CONMEBOL presidents are accused of corruption]. I believe that with Gorka, the biggest accusation is of the extortion that he led against teams that presented complaints" (AS, 1/26).
