NBL Side Melbourne United Wants To Move To Rod Laver Arena

Australian National Basketball League side Melbourne United is "eyeing an eventual move from Hisense Arena to the larger Rod Laver Arena to capitalise on its and the NBL’s growing popularity," according to Nick Smart of the HERALD SUN. United's "shift from the 10,200-seat Hisense Arena to the 3,500-seat State Netball and Hockey Centre for this month because of the Australian Open highlights the need for its own facility." While that is the long-term goal, club bosses are "looking at a shorter-term solution that includes a move next door to the 15,000-seat Rod Laver Arena." United CEO Vince Crivelli said, "I think the momentum this season has been great. But the goal for me is to have a season of sellouts (at Hisense) and then we can push to see what Rod Laver Arena looks like and go from there. I’d like to get it to the point where Hisense Arena becomes a member-only venue and we have no choice but to go to Rod Laver Arena" (HERALD SUN, 1/6).
