Four German Hockey League Clubs Interested In Hosting '17 DEL Winter Game

Four German Hockey League (DEL) clubs "have reportedly stated their interest in hosting the league outdoor game in '17," according to Nils Lehnebach of SPONSORs. The four clubs that want to host the game are the Cologne Sharks, Dusseldorf EG, Red Bull Munich and Eisbären Berlin. The second and most recent DEL Winter Game took place at Dusseldorf's Esprit Arena (54,600 seats) in '15. Cologne, which submitted a bid for the '15 game with the Veltins Arena in Schalke, will bid for the '17 edition with the RheinEnergie stadium (50,374 seats). Berlin's bid features the city's Olympic Stadium (74,475 seats), while Munich wants to host the game at the Allianz Arena (75,024 seats). Neither the league nor the cities have confirmed their bids. The cities have until Jan. 8 to submit their bids (SPONSORs, 12/14).
