Event Notes: Former Member Of Urdaibai Rowing Team Speaks Out

A member of the Bermeo, Spain-based Urdaibai rowing team in '10, when the club "allegedly administered banned substances to its athletes," has claimed that they were given "more than eight jabs a day," allowing it to recover from its poor results and win the Liga ACT as well as the Bandera de La Concha. Ten defendants have testified in the trial which has begun against the alleged doping ring organized by the club, including its president, coach, doctor and nurse when the incidents occurred, along with another six people (MARCA, 11/2). ... Valencia Open Dir Juan Carlos Ferrero said that the event "will not take place in the city next year because of a dispute between organizers of the indoor hard court event and the regional government." Ferrero said that he was "very disappointed" that an agreement with the government had not been honored and they were "considering renting or selling" the license for the event, which has been running since '03, to another city (REUTERS, 11/1).
