Force India Could Be Rebranded Aston Martin Racing; Confirms Talks With A British Marque

British car brand Aston Martin could return to F1 after more than half a century, with reports claiming Force India will be rebranded as Aston Martin Racing. The car manufacturer, known for its appearance in the James Bond movie franchise, last competed in the series in '60. Force India's current engine supplier Mercedes, which holds a 5% stake in the British carmaker, has reportedly already given the go ahead for Aston Martin's return in '16. Force India has not yet officially confirmed the deal, only stating that talks with a British car brand have taken place. "We are in discussion, nothing has been finalized, we have many options and I'll be able to confirm or otherwise once I have something to say," Force India Owner Vijay Mallya said. "I don't like to count my chickens before they hatch." The proposed rebranding, which was first reported by Autosport, would also see the team's colors change from its current black and orange to blue and gold as part of a sponsorship tie-in with Diageo brand Johnnie Walker. The Scotch whisky producer is expected to end its $23M-a-year deal with McLaren at the end of the season. Earlier this year, Aston Martin was linked to Red Bull, which is looking to replace engine supplier Renault following a public spat. Speaking to Autosport, Mallya said, "If the marque comes along and I have to change the team name, I have to look at what it does for the team in terms of profile. That marque is one of the most famous British brands. It has a good amount of stature. It is at a level of luxury and aspiration. It attracts more sponsors and makes what is today Force India more marketable."
