Event Notes: U.K. Horse Racing Brings Back $1.5M Jackpot To Honor Kauto Star

U.K. horse racing's $1.5M jackpot "is back." Nine years after Kauto Star triggered the bonus awarded by bookmakers Betfair, a new initiative called the "Chase Triple Crown" has been launched "in honor of the star steeplechaser who died earlier this year." The seven-figure sum put up by the U.K.'s Jockey Club Racecourses is on offer for "any horse that can match the bay gelding's achievement" of winning the Betfair Chase, William Hill King George VI Chase and Betfred Cheltenham Gold Cup during the '06-07 season (CNN, 10/14). ... The Austrian city of Innsbruck has been awarded the 2018 Int'l Cycling Union (UCI) Road World Championships. Innsbruck was "up against the British region of Yorkshire" and a bid from Colombia, which had also applied for the '17 event. The Innsbruck course will be "one for the climbers" and will contain an 8km climb around 20km outside of Innsbruck. There will reportedly be somewhere between 4,000 and 4,500 meters of altitude gain across the elite men's course (CYCLING NEWS, 10/14).
