Event Notes: Hangzhou, China Confirmed As Host Of 2022 Asian Games

The Olympic Council of Asia announced Hangzhou, China, was confirmed on Wednesday as the host of the 2022 Asian Games. The capital of China's Zhejiang province was the "sole bidder to stage the 19th edition of Asia's biggest multi-sports event" (REUTERS, 9/16). ... Only around 20,000 spectators "attended the UEFA Champions League game between VfL Wolfsburg and CSKA Moscow" on Tuesday. The club announced an official attendance of 20,176, including 1,200 refugees that the club "invited to the game." Tuesday's game was Wolfsburg's "first Champions League home game in six years." The Volkswagen Arena, which has a capacity of 30,000, "holds 26,000 during Champions League games" (SPONSORs, 9/16). ... A U.S.-based all-star Twenty20 tournament featuring former cricketers Sachin Tendulkar, Shane Warne and Brian Lara has reportedly been "given the blessing" of the Int'l Cricket Council. The one-off series, planned to begin in November, "would feature three matches played on drop-in pitches at the most celebrated baseball stadiums in the world:" Dodger Stadium in L.A., Yankee Stadium in N.Y. and Wrigley Field in Chicago (THE AGE, 9/16).
