Close To 5 Million Viewers Tune In To Watch Bundesliga Highlights On ARD

German public broadcaster ARD "recorded more than 4.7 million viewers for its Bundesliga highlights show on Saturday," according to Alexander Krei of DWDL. The Bundesliga "Sportschau" attracted 4.72 million viewers starting at 6pm. In the target demographic 14-49, the program obtained a market share of 19.2%. Pay-TV operator Sky drew a market share of 15.2% in the target demo for its live broadcast of Saturday's games. The final EuroBasket game of the German team on Thursday was watched by 1.46 million viewers. The number translated into a market share of 8.6%. In the target demo, Germany's 77-76 loss against Spain had a 8% share.

FOOTBALL SUNDAY: German free-to-air TV channel ProSieben Maxx drew a 1.1% market share in the target demo for its broadcast of the NFL game between the St. Louis Rams and Seattle Seahawks. The second game between Denver and Baltimore drew a 2.6% market share. The market share increased to 4.5% during the fourth quarter of the game between the Broncos and Ravens as 170,000 viewers tuned in. The first game had a total viewership of 190,000 viewers. The NFL was especially successful with the male audience 14-49, where it obtained a peak market share of 9.5% (DWDL, 9/14).

YOUTH BASEBALL: The finale of the XXVII WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup at Koshien Stadium in Osaka outperformed Japan's most popular TV programs, according to multiple media reports. Japan's biggest region, Kanto, which has a potential reach of 18.1 million households, showed the finale between the Japan and the U.S. -- the U.S. won 2-1 -- and generated an average TV rating of 18.6 and spiked to 27.2 during the final moments of the game, which ran just under three hours from 6:30-9:24pm JST (WBSC).
