Australian NFL player Jarryd Hayne has expressed the "first genuine sign of frustration" in the circus that has become "the story of the pre-season," according to Michael Chammas of the SYDNEY MORNING HERALD. Hayne: "Every man and their dog has been interviewed about me. Every day there's someone new or someone who has had something to do with me. For me, like I said. I don't control that. That's what you guys are doing, not me. That's not my thing." Hayne hysteria "has gone to levels that probably drain Hayne's phone battery a few times a day from the amount of Twitter, Instagram and Facebook notifications the San Francisco running back is receiving." This is not "being blown out of proportion by the Australian media," as those "infuriated with the in-your-face coverage" of the Hayne Plane have suggested. In the 49ers' final three preseason games, there "were more than 700,000 views on Fairfax Media's live blogging of Hayne's trials."
Of the top 10 most read sports stories on Fairfax Media websites across Australia in the past fortnight, Hayne "featured in eight of them." For every person that is "sick of the hearing his name, there's thousands more excited by the novelty of his inspiring story and the twists and turns of life in the NFL" (SMH, 9/13).
