Rugby Club Hull Ionians Invests In Marketing To Meet Challenges Of Promotion

National League One side Hull Ionians "invested in a new marketing operation" as it seeks to tackle the business challenges of promotion, according to the HULL DAILY MAIL. The rugby union club was promoted to National League One, "the third tier of the sport in England, at the end of last season." Club Chair Pat Wilson said that "close ties with sponsors would help avoid a repeat of Ionians' last spell at the level, which ended in relegation." Wilson said that "the strategy aimed to ensure investors could see the results of their input." He said, "We used to have a marketing director but now we have created a marketing team -- people who are very experienced in business, who are well connected and who can share the workload. We set them a financial target, which they have managed to achieve. It is vital we keep our links with local businesses." The chairman "would not reveal the level of revenue raised by the marketing team" (HULL DAILY MAIL, 8/18).
