League Notes: NBA, FIBA To Hold Basketball Without Borders In Dominican Republic

The NBA and FIBA announced on Wednesday that Houston Rockets player Corey Brewer, Atlanta Hawks player Al Horford of the Dominican Republic and Dallas Mavericks player Charlie Villanueva -- whose parents are from the DR -- will join Luc Mbah a Moute (most recently with the Philadelphia 76ers; Cameroon), as well as former NBA players Francisco Garcia (Dominican Republic national team), Tito Horford (Dominican Republic), and Felipe Lopez (former Dominican Republic national team player) to lead 51 campers from 18 North and South American countries at the first Basketball without Borders (BWB) Americas camp in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic from Aug. 16-19 (NBA). ... Formula 1's technical chiefs have been tasked by the Strategy Group to "increase opportunities for overtaking in grands prix." F1 is currently looking to "improve the show" in '17 with the introduction of cars five seconds per lap faster, "more aggressive looking with wider front and rear wings and fatter rear tyres," and potentially with 1,000bhp engines. The FIA has yet to formulate a set of regulations for '17, which is causing "a number of technical directors concern given the rules have to be in place by March of next year," beyond which they cannot be altered (AUTOSPORT, 8/10).
