Row Over Ligue 1 Relegation Places Continues As Clubs Quit UCPF

All but two of the Ligue 1 football sides quit the Union of Professional Clubs (UCPF) on Tuesday due to the row over the Ligue 1 relegation and promotion places, according to Ian Holyman of ESPN. The clubs said that they were "unhappy that the French Football League (LFP)'s decision to reduce the number of relegation places to two had been annulled by the French Football Federation." Initially, the LFP had planned to change the number of teams dropping out of the top flight for the 2016-17 season but then decided to adopt the measure immediately (ESPN, 8/11).

RENNES IN QUESTION: L'EQUIPE reported on Wednesday that Rennes joined the 18 teams in quitting the UCPF, but the club refused to comment on the issue and did not communicate an official departure from the UCPF (L'EQUIPE, 8/12).
