Media Notes: Sky Sports Asks England Cricket Fans To Send In Selfies For Ashes TV Ad

Sky Sports "is asking England's cricket fans to send in pictures and video that capture the spirit of #MyAshesSummer, with the best content to be featured in upcoming Sky Sports TV advertising." The TV ad "will be updated after every Test, with new content sent in by fans" (MARKETING MAGAZINE, 6/22). ... Virgin Media will this week begin the £3B ($4.7B) extension of its cable network, "in what represents the largest investment in broadband in Britain for more than a decade." The TV and Internet provider’s plan includes spending £75M ($118M) to enable a further 150,000 homes in Manchester to access ultrafast broadband. It represents a "major challenge" to rival operator BT, "which has committed billions of pounds to sports rights and to a potential acquisition of mobile operator EE" (FINANCIAL TIMES, 6/22). ... The IOC "will receive an award" at the upcoming Int'l Broadcasting Convention for its efforts to preserve and manage its audiovisual archives. This "includes making the archives available to broadcasters and researchers" (HOLLYWOOD REPORTER, 6/22).
