German Basketball Side Rheinstars Cologne Hold Initial Merger Talks With FC Cologne

German fourth-tier basketball club Rheinstars Cologne "has held talks with FC Cologne about being incorporated into the main club of the football Bundesliga side," according to Henning Eberhardt of SPONSORs. FC Cologne President Werner Spinner: "It is correct that we've held initial talks. However, everything is at an early stage and not concrete. We don't have any figures or facts. Football is the top priority for the [club]." Basketball "would be the fourth discipline within the club along with football, handball and table tennis." Rheinstars Managing Dir Stephan Baeck was less open about the merger talks. Baeck: "For us it's always good to communicate with clubs. ... The talks were absolutely positive, but it was only a first exchange" (SPONSORs, 6/11).
