Repucom announced the appointment of RAVI CHAVAN as VP, South Asia. He will be based in Mumbai and lead the company's expanding South Asian business across India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. He brings a wealth of experience in Asia and Europe across the sports, events, media, brands and data analytics landscape (Repucom). ... EPL side Newcastle head coach STEVE MCCLAREN has been appointed to the club's board -- "in a takeover by the club's football brains." The former England chief will "wield power alongside a new ruling committee" -- minus Owner MIKE ASHLEY. Ashley has "stepped back from the running of the club he owns" and has invested £240M ($372.5M) in. Now McClaren, chief scout GRAHAM CARR and club ambassador BOB MONCUR have "been appointed to the board," alongside Managing Dir LEE CHARNLEY (London DAILY MIRROR, 6/10).

COACHES/MANAGERSOSWALDO DE OLIVEIRA was sacked as coach of Brasileiro side Palmeiras four days after Dir of FootballALEXANDRE MATTOS said that he was "1,000% guaranteed" to stay in the position (ESTADÃO, 6/9). ... DMITRY ALENICHEV has been appointed head coach of Russian Premier League club Spartak Moscow. The terms of the contract with the 42 year-old, a former Spartak captain, "were not revealed in the announcement on the club website." Alenichev replaces MURAT YAKIN, who was "sacked after the Red and Whites finished sixth in the Russian Premier League" (REUTERS, 6/10). ... Spanish second division side Córdoba has reportedly named JOSÉ LUIS OLTRA its manager. Oltra and the club reportedly held an "extended meeting in Seville over a several-day period where they ironed out a deal." He was "expected to be unveiled on Wednesday" (VAVEL, 6/10).
