Germany's National Football Team Presents New 'Die Mannschaft' Branding

Germany's national football team has become "Die Mannschaft." Two days ahead of Wednesday's friendly against the U.S. in Cologne, Team Manager Oliver Bierhoff has unveiled the World Champions' new logo, created from a new branding design. The emblem in the middle of the "Die Mannschaft" lettering is a combination of the existing Germany national team logo and the badge from the 2010 World Cup kit. The new branding fills a gap. "Die Mannschaft" fits the bill. With this new title, the essence of the brand now carries a fixed term. The name is not necessarily a German Football Federation (DFB) creation. It is an adoption of a language usage that has already established itself worldwide (DFB). REUTERS' Karolos Grohmann reported known in "many countries by this term," meaning "team" in German, the country wants to "reinforce it with a reference on their equipment and a new logo which includes a fourth star for their fourth World Cup win last year." Bierhoff said, "There were many names but none that expressed as well all the things the team stands for." He said that while other countries had "long branded their national teams," Germany had not done so until now (REUTERS, 6/8).
