Names In The News

Former Chinese tennis player LI NA posted a photo of her newborn baby girl's foot on her Sina Weibo and Twitter account early on Wednesday. The baby is called ALISA. China's first Grand Slam winner said that the baby is "the best gift she has ever received." Li also said that she "wants to be a housewife from now on." Li: "Because of the tennis, I owe a lot to my family and now is the time for me to change" (CHINA DAILY, 6/3). ... The FA said that Arsenal midfielder JACK WILSHERE "has been charged with misconduct in relation to Sunday's FA Cup celebrations." Wilshere apologized for his behavior on his Twitter account on Monday. But it was "not enough to save him from an FA charge" (London TELEGRAPH, 6/3). ... Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund presented its new head coach THOMAS TUCHEL in an official press conference on Wednesday. Only four days after JÜERGEN KLOPP "announced his resignation in April, the 'BVB' immediately reacted" and appointed former Mainz coach and desired candidate Tuchel for the '15-16 season. Tuchel "started his career" as a Bundesliga head coach in '09 in Mainz (XINHUA, 6/3).

ALONSO ON TOP: FERNANDO ALONSO "remains the highest paid driver" in F1 this year. That is the claim of the "latest edition of Business Book, having published a detailed salary ranking of every driver" on the '15 grid. He will be banking "no less than" $39M. That is more than SEBASTIAN VETTEL, even though the German's new $30M Ferrari retainer is "higher than his earlier wage as quadruple world champion at Red Bull." In third place in '15 is LEWIS HAMILTON, but the world champion's $28M will "reportedly increase to or beyond Alonso's dizzying earning powers next year and beyond" (GMM, 6/3).

BARTOMEU TO RESIGN?: Barcelona VP CARLES VILARRUBÍ said on Wednesday that, "no matter what happens in Berlin" in the Champions League final, club President JOSEP MARIA BARTOMEU "will resign and call for a presidential election before the summer." Vilarrubí: "Whatever happens, Bartomeu will resign before the summer and the exec committee will have to hold a presidential election" (SPORT, 6/3).
