CBF President Del Nero Signs Financial Statement Under Former President Marin

Brazilian Football Federation (CBF) President Marco Polo Del Nero said that he "was not responsible" for CBF contracts signed by former President José Maria Marin, who was arrested in Zurich last week; however, he "endorsed such a contract from his predecessor" prior to his term, according to Rangel & Passos of FOLHA DE SÃO PAULO. Del Nero "participated in the negotiations and closings of at least 10 of the 13" CBF sponsorship contracts. Del Nero "signed off on the entity's financial statement" from '14, before his term began, and was the only VP to do so. CBF Finance Dir Rogério Caboclo said that the CBF "did not demand Del Nero to sign the document." Caboclo: "The person who signs is the current president, José Maria Marin. Marco Polo, who was very diligent, wanted to sign, showing that he was generally in agreement with [CBF] accounts." However, Del Nero "minimized his participation in Marin's term." Del Nero: "I did not sign any contracts during President Marin's term. I was vice president, and vice [presidents] aren't in charge." Caboclo, who "responded on the CBF president's side," added, "Whoever signs [off on] the balance doesn't always know everything" (FOLHA DE SÃO PAULO, 6/1).
