Argentine FA President Says Government Intervention Would Have 'Consequences'

Argentine FA President Luis Segura said that government intervention in the AFA would have "sporting consequences," in reference to comments made by Argentine Security Secretary Sergio Berni, according to LA NACION. Segura alluded to the "well-known position of FIFA," which immediately disaffiliates from organizations with government intervention. Segura: "I do not know Berni personally. We have to sit down to resolve the problems. Anyone can opine and his is another opinion. But his declarations do no good for anyone" (LA NACION, 5/18). LOS ANDES reported Argentina Cabinet Chief Aníbal Fernández discredited Berni, saying that intervening in the AFA is "not on the government's agenda." Fernández: "It is not on the agenda; we do not address the topic" (LOS ANDES, 5/19).

11 FANS IDENTIFIED: LOS ANDES reported in a separate piece Boca Juniors published a statement on its website after Fox Sports released images "showing a fan releasing the gas that ended up injuring four River Plate players." The club said that there are "11 fans identified" and that the video showing the attack on the River Plate players was presented on Monday at 4pm. Boca added that for "legal reasons, the club is not authorized to publish the names" of the identified fans (LOS ANDES, 5/19).
