SVEIN ARNE HANSEN of Norway was elected as president of European Athletics on Saturday. Hansen received 26 votes from the 50 European Athletics member federations, giving him an overall majority in the first round of voting. The three official candidates for the presidency of European Athletics were Hansen, JEAN GRACIA (FRA) and ANTTI PIHLAKOSKI (FIN). Gracia received 19 votes and Pihlakoski received five votes. DOBRIMIR KARAMARINOV, FRANK HENSEL and Gracia were elected as the three VPs (IAAF). ... England center RACHAEL BURFORD "has become the first female professional player on the Rugby Players' Association players' board." The 28-year-old "won 56 caps" and helped England win the World Cup in '14. She "was last year's England Women's player of the year" (BBC, 4/13).

COACHES/MANAGERS: Serie B side Virtus Entella appointed ALFREDO AGLIETTI as its new coach after sacking LUCA PRINA. Aglietti "officially signed a contract" that will expire on June 30, 2016 (FOOTBALL ITALIA, 4/12). ... ALLAN MOORE has been sacked as Scottish League Two side Arbroath manager "less than a year into the job." The 50-year-old "was appointed in June last year and his side set the early pace in Scottish League Two" (BBC, 4/12). ... League Two side Portsmouth Manager ANDY AWFORD "left his position after a season in charge." Awford, 42, took over from RICHIE BARKER "at the end of last season and helped steer the club to safety." Assistant Manager GARY WADDOCK "has been placed in temporary charge until the end of the season with four games left of the current campaign" (BBC, 4/13). ... Bolivian football club San José Manager NÉSTOR CLAUSEN announced his resignation after his club tied Blooming 2-2 at home. Clausen "had only coached the club for a month and complained about its economic situation, saying it is a distraction for the players." San José is currently competing in the Copa Libertadores, but is in last place in Group 6 with four points in five games (EFE, 4/12). ... Argentine first division side Olimpo de Bahía Blanca coach WALTER PERAZZO stepped down after nine games without a victory. PABLO PAZ, who played for Argentine clubs Newell's Old Boys and Banfield, "appears to be the principal candidate to take his place" (DYN, 4/12). ... Argentine first division side Atlético Rafaela named LEONARDO ASTRADA its new coach, replacing ROBERTO SENSINI. Astrada will coach the club for the rest of this season (LOS ANDES, 4/13).
