DTM Considers Hosting Race Weekend On Date Left Vacant By Canceled F1 Grand Prix

The German Touring Car Championship (DTM) "is considering using the now vacant F1 race timeslot for a race weekend of its own at the Nürburgring," according to the SID. The DTM is thinking about hosting a race during the weekend of the canceled German F1 Grand Prix, which is scheduled to take place on July 19. Hans-Werner Aufrecht, who is the chairman of DTM rights holder ITR, said, "July 19 is on our minds, we are thinking about this date. It's an ideal timeslot that F1 had there. However, it would have to be a long-term commitment for it to happen." Aufrecht said that a deal "would have to be signed within the next 14 days." He did not clarify if the potential race would be an addition to the 18 events on the series' schedule or simply a replacement for the Nürburgring races, which are scheduled for Sept. 26-27 (SID, 4/13).
