GE Sponsors Brazilian Canoeing Federation With Monitoring Equipment, Software

The Brazilian Canoeing Federation (CBCa) announced Wednesday a partnership with GE, according to Flávio Dilascio of GLOBO ESPORTE. GE will be "responsible for implementing the use of an innovative software to be used in preparation" for the 2016 Olympic Games. The program is an "advanced monitoring" of Brazil's main canoeing athletes through "sensor installations in the canoes." The equipment "will have the function of measuring force, speed and amplitude of movements," and the information will be "stored in a database." GE Latin America CEO Reinaldo Garcia said, "Since 2005, we have been sponsors of the IOC and we decided now to invest in the sponsorship of a team with real chances of winning medals at the Olympics, and that's why we chose Brazilian canoeing ... It's the first time in Brazil that we're adding technology in athletic performance. All the data will be interpreted and stored in our archives to help coaches in preparation for the Games in Rio." Brazilian coach Jesús Morlán "showed enthusiasm with the partnership." Morlán expects "good results in the next competitions." Morlán: "This work fits well with what we do at CBCa, it's an enormous, helpful aid that will make our day-to-day. We have one year to work with this technology until the Olympics and we expect to get the best out of it" (GLOBO ESPORTE, 4/1).
