La Liga Side Elche Remains In Crisis After Missing Deadline

La Liga side Elche's "lack of a solution to its institutional crisis" has provoked the "entire organization" to turn its back on club President José Sepulcre and Elche's management, according to M.H. Marcos of AS. The club's players announced on Wednesday that they would not "make public appearances or offer comments until the situation is resolved as a means of protest." In November, Elche announced that it had received a loan of €20.5M to restructure the debt. That loan was "the beginning of the end of Sepulcre's credibility as president." The identity of the source of the loan "was not announced" and the only names published were those of the intermediaries in the operation: Sergio Maniviesa and Romualdo Soriano. Elche execs are "still waiting for the loan, as they count down the margin of 10 days after the deadline to pay off the debts and reduce the expected sanctions" (AS, 4/2).
