MUSTAFA KAMAL resigned as Int'l Cricket Council president in protest on Tuesday after he twice "alleged that there was a conspiracy against him and his native Bangladesh" during the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. Kamal took offense after he was "barred from presenting the World Cup trophy to the winning captain" on Sunday. The honor "fell instead" to ICC Chair N. SRINIVASAN. The ICC committee had "apparently taken a dim view of Kamal presenting the trophy after he suggested" the umpires during the quarterfinal between Bangladesh and India were "biased against his country" (LONDON TIMES, 4/1). Kamal launched a "scathing attack" on the Indian and the ICC top management, whom he "termed 'ugly people.'" Kamal: "I’m again requesting that these type of people should be away from cricket, otherwise cricket will be spoilt, cricket will not move forward. My earnest request to ICC is to revisit those things. I'm sure people will find out why I have resigned and they will unearth the truth -- who are these people, what are they doing and how they are running ICC" (London GUARDIAN, 4/1). ... After resigning last week from "all his responsibilities" with the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), JOSÉ LUIS DÍEZ on Tuesday resigned as president of the Federación Navarra, which he led for 14 and a half years (EL CONFIDENCIAL, 4/1). ... Argentine first division side Nueva Chicago coach OMAR LABRUNA was sacked after his club did not record a win through seven games this season -- the team currently has four losses and three ties (TÉLAM, 3/31). ... Basketball Bundesliga (BBL) CEO JAN POMMER "will resign from his position at the end of July." According to the league's website, the 44-year-old "requested the early termination of his contract." Pommer "has been at the helm of the league since '05 and his contract was set to expire in '18" (HORIZONT, 4/1). ... MARCOS MADEIRA is the new president of the Brazilian Futsal Federation (CBFS). Madeira, who is the former president of the Minas Gerais Football Federation (FMF), "was elected for the position on Tuesday." Madeira "will have a term of four years and encounters" the CBFS without a master sponsor since '13 and with a debt of approximately R$6M ($2M) (GLOBO ESPORTE, 3/31). ... Brazilian National Secretary of Sport RICARDO TRADE "resigned" on Tuesday. Trade, who is the former 2014 World Cup CEO, "will become the CEO" of the Brazilian Volleyball Federation (CBV). Secretary of Sport, Education, Leisure and Social Inclusion CARLOS GERALDO "will take his [Trade's] place" (LANCEPRESS, 3/31). ... Global marketing agency GMR Marketing appointed DAVID O’CONNOR to help grow and lead its developing int’l football business. Based out of the agency’s EMEA HQ in London, O’Connor joins after six years at FIFA HQ in Zurich, where he headed up the marketing communications and research team for FIFA marketing (GMR).
