Netball Australia's Proposed Reforms Of ANL Could Open Door To Canberra Team

Netball Australia's proposed reforms of the Australian Netball League "could lay the groundwork for a Canberra team to enter the ANZ Championship in the future," according to David Polkinghorne of the CANBERRA TIMES. They could also lead to the Canberra Darters playing "trans-Tasman netball league curtain closers and becoming a legitimate feeder team for the elite competition." The ANL "normally runs once the ANZ Championship is finished, but Netball Australia will bring it forward to run over eight weeks during May and June for the 2016 ANZ Championship." Netball Australia High Performance Head Andrew Collins "floated the possibility it could one day lead to Canberra having its own team in the ANZ Championship." Collins: "It's not inconceivable in the future that as some stage down the track the ANZ Championship might be looking at some sort of expansion and reform as well. Who knows, if things go right in the ACT the state could be well positioned for that sort of opportunity if it comes up" (CANBERRA TIMES, 3/10).
