CBF Includes Point Deduction Punishments In Campeonato Brasileiro Official Rules

The Brazilian Football Federation (CBF) confirmed on Monday the "inclusion of 'financial fair play' in the Série A, B and C rules" for the 2015 Campeonato Brasileiro, according to ESTADÃO. As published on the CBF's official site, any clubs with player salaries overdue by 30 days or more are "subject to the deduction of three points per game." However, the rule "will only occur if the affected player decides" to report the delayed payments. The punishments will be in place at the beginning of the Campeonato "in May, and will be effective up to 30 days after the competition ends." For a club to receive a punishment, "the athlete, the athlete's lawyer, or a syndicate must report it to the Superior Court of Sports Justice (STJD)." If the reporting entity "proves the outstanding debt," the club will have 15 days to pay up, which would avoid any punishment. Brasileiro Serie B side Bom Senso announced its disagreement with the CBF's "logic," saying on its official site that the athlete "who collaborates with his club to win those three points" must be the one to report the club for the deduction "of those same points." CBF Financial Dir Rogério Caboclo: "If we have few or no reports, it does not mean that the Fair Play failed. Nobody wants to see the clubs downgraded or excluded from the competition for reasons beyond the football field" (ESTADÃO, 3/10).
