ManU Warns Rival Fans Of 'Lawless' Rome Riot Police Ahead Of Champions League Clash

A ManU fan group warned Man City supporters they face attack from “lawless” riot police in Rome, according to the London DAILY MIRROR. Around 1,500 City supporters will head to the Champions League clash with AS Roma. And they have been told that if trouble erupts with Roma’s Ultras -- "the club’s notorious fanatical supporters" -- Rome’s "feared riot police will show them no mercy." Independent Manchester United Supporters Association Vice-Chair Colin Hendrie said, "I wouldn't tell City fans not to go and follow their team but I would advise them to be careful because of what happened to many of our supporters and fans from other teams who have been to this stadium in the past. The Italian riot police are violent and they are used to acting without recrimination." Man City has not given any special warnings to its fans -- nor has it told them "to avoid the infamous Ponte Milvio, a bridge near the Olympic Stadium where Roma’s Ultra followers attack visiting fans" (MIRROR, 12/10).
