Mexico Football Federation President Justino Compeán Hoping To Host 2026 World Cup

Mexico Football Federation President Justino Compeán said that the country has "adequate infrastructure to host the World Cup" in '26, according to Minelli Atayde of LA AFICION. The "fight for a bid will be between Mexico, the U.S. and Canada," and Compean is confident Mexico can win. Compean: "We have the best ambassador in CONCACAF to have the World Cup, and it would be a matter of three countries." He added that with Mexico last hosting the event in '86, the country "has the right to raise its hand." Compean: "We have stadiums: in 2016 Estadio Azteca will turn 50 and begin renovations, we will also open a new stadium in Monterrey."  He added, "We will see who will be our representative; here we are all partners: fans, media, sponsors, authorities. In 2016 we will have the FIFA Congress. It is very important, 209 countries and 1,300 people, and we have to show the true face of Mexico" (LA AFICION, 12/9).
