Badminton World No. 1 Lee's Sponsorships In Question Following Doping Offense

Badminton world No. 1 Lee Chong Wei has been temporarily suspended following an "apparent" doping offense, according to ASIA SPONSORSHIP NEWS. The implications of this Asian scandal "are now beginning to be revealed." One of the repercussions that still remains unclear at this stage, however, "is the reaction from his current crop of sponsors -- the Badminton Association of Malaysia (who pay Lee a stipend), Yonex, Maxis and 100 Plus -- who could take a hard or conciliatory line as they take steps to manage their reputational risk." 100Plus -- the Fraser & Neave-owned isotonic drink -- has already come out in support of Lee, "but the others have not shown their cards yet." Question marks therefore "still linger over the collective endorsement fees of these three private sector corporations" -- totaling $230,000 (ASIA SPONSORSHIP NEWS, 11/11).
