NFL Reportedly Weighing Game In Mexico City As San Francisco's York Meets With City Official

The NFL seems to be "taking more solid steps" toward a return to Mexico in the "not too distant future," according to Alain Arenas of LA AFICION. On Sunday Mexico City Secretary for Economic Development Salomón Chertorivski met with NFL San Francisco 49ers co-Chair John York to discuss plans and "Mexico City's desire to hold a game in the capital." The 49ers played the Arizona Cardinals on Oct. 2, 2005 at the city's Estadio Azteca. The meeting "shows the government's interest in increasing the presence of int'l leagues in Mexico City." An NBA game scheduled for Wednesday between the Minnesota Timberwolves and Houston Rockets "is good news not only for basketball fans but also for NFL fans." NFL Mexico Managing Dir Arturo Olivé said that the league "will be watching, and hosting a quality event would add points in the city's favor for a possible return by the NFL." He said that he will send a report about how the city manages the Timberwolves-Rockets game to the NFL's general office (LA AFICION, 11/10).
