German Cup Final Featuring Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund Sets Ratings Record

Saturday's DFB-Pokal (German Cup) final between Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund "set a new all-time ratings record on German public broadcaster ARD," according to David Grzeschik of QUOTENMETER. A total of 14.27 million viewers tuned in starting at 8pm. The number translated "into a tremendous market share" of 48%. In the target demographic 14-49, Bayern's 2-0 victory after extra time attracted 4.94 million viewers and had a 47.7% share. The previous record of 13.55 million viewers was set in '12. That DFB-Pokal final "also featured Munich and Dortmund" (QUOTENMETER, 5/18). In a separate piece, Grzeschik reported German pay-TV channel Sky, which also aired the final, attracted 380,000 viewers and had a 1.3% market share. In the target demographic, the pay-TV network obtained a 2.6% share while 270,000 viewers tuned in (QUOTENMETER, 5/18).

RELEGATION: QUOTENMETER's Kevin Kyburz reported ARD attracted 8.47 million viewers for its broadcast of the first leg of the relegation matchup between Bundesliga side Hamburg SV and 2nd Bundesliga club Greuther Fürth. The game obtained a market share of 27.7% on Thursday night. In the target demographic 14-49, the 0-0 draw had a market share of 25.2% while 2.86 million viewers tuned in (QUOTENMETER, 5/16).
