FFA Rules Out Synchronized Kickoffs For A-League's Season-Ending Round 27

All five games of the final round of the A-League season this weekend will "have an impact on the make-up of the top six but Football Federation Australia has ruled out the possibility" of synchronizing kickoff times for round 27 in future years, according to Dominic Bossi of the SYDNEY MORNING HERALD. The "sense of drama on the final day" of the '11-12 EPL season will "unlikely be a feature in A-League seasons to come." The FFA confirmed that synchronizing the last round was "not possible due to other demands." Round 27 is "spread across five kick-off timeslots from Friday to Sunday evening." In almost "all other leagues, and the final round of group games of the World Cup, games are held simultaneously for competitive purposes." A-League clubs have "long wanted" synchronized kickoffs but "not at the expense" of jeopardizing other factors such as the "revenue streams associated with broadcast partners." Sydney FC CEO Tony Pignata said that his club "had a significant advantage of playing the last game of the weekend, as their fate will likely be known before they play" (SMH, 4/10).
