Event Notes: DTM Qualifiying Session Canceled As Putin's Plane Enters Airspace

The German Touring Car Championship's (DTM) qualifying session at the Moscow Raceway on Saturday "was canceled ahead of time when Russian President Vladimir Putin flew over the circuit and led to the closure of the airspace." The result was that the track's medical helicopter "would have been unable to take off if there was a serious incident." The organizers "were told the delay would be two hours long, and so decided to scrap Q4, the final session of qualifying, and take the results from Q3" (HANDELSBLATT, 8/3). ... The National Rugby League and Australian Football League "are on a collision course for September, with the potential of five games in Sydney across three days leaving the codes to fight for priority at ANZ Stadium." As the "NRL ladder stands on Monday," the Sydney Roosters (first), South Sydney Rabbitohs (second), Cronulla Sharks (fifth) and Canterbury Bulldogs (sixth) would "all play home finals in Sydney in the opening weekend of the finals series," while the Sydney Swans (second) could play at the venue in the second week of the AFL finals (SYDNEY MORNING HERALD, 8/5). ... Jaypee Sports Int'l (JPSI) on Saturday announced the "commencement of ticket sales for the Formula One Indian Grand Prix" with the minimum price to watch the race set at Rs 1500 ($25). The third edition of the F1 race is set for Oct. 25-27 at the Buddh Int'l circuit. Organizers "have also divided the main Grand Stand in two tiers." The three-day ticket "in MGS lower-tier will cost" Rs 21,000 ($344), while "the Sunday-ticket at the same stand" has been priced at Rs 12,000 ($196) (PTI, 8/3). ... An official said on Thursday that Indonesia has "moved the venue for the Islamic Solidarity Games for a second time," this time to Palembang, which "co-hosted the ill-fated 2011 Southeast Asian Games" (AFP, 8/2).
