League Notes: Additional 18,000 Soldiers To Provide 2014 World Cup Security

Brazil's Armed Forces Chief of Joint Staff José Carlos De Nardi revealed that "in addition to local police forces more than 18,000 soldiers will provide security during the 2014 World Cup." At least 1,500 soldiers will be deployed to each of the 12 host cities during the World Cup. Overall, the armed forces will spend €271M ($350M) on security (SID, 10/3). ... Organizers of the German Hockey League's (DEL) first outdoor game, the DEL Winter Game, are providing fans with another service for the Jan. 5 game. Visitors can now book their hotel online at www.delwintergame.de (DEL). ... The IOC has appointed Beyond Sport to support the IOC Sport for All Commission throughout the build-up to the 15th IOC World Conference on Sport for All, to be held in Lima, Peru in April. The IOC Sport for All Commission was established in '83 with the primary aim of encouraging and supporting efforts to disseminate the health and social benefits of sport. Beyond Sport will be supporting in the development of the event delivery and will use its extensive network and knowledge of programs from around the world to assist the commission in selecting the recipients of the Sport for All Grants (Beyond Sport). ... The Korean baseball league "has seen its attendance mark surpass 7 million for the first time." According to the Korea Baseball Organization, Tuesday's four games attracted 39,200 fans as of 6:30pm local time to "set a new ticket record" (KOREAN TIMES, 10/2).
