South Africa's Premier Soccer League, First Division Clubs Reach Agreement

South Africa's Premier Soccer League and National First Division clubs "have settled their dispute," which had delayed the start to the second-tier's season, according to Ramatsiyi Moholoa of the SOWETAN. It was decided at a meeting of the NFD clubs in Johannesburg on Monday that "the league would start on Friday." First Division clubs spokesperson Pat Malabela said, "We have found each other. The matter has been sorted out internally." In terms of the agreement, the PSL will give NFD clubs R115M ($13.7M), according to a senior exec member. Though the details of the agreement have yet to be made public, it is believed the PSL has decided the NFD's monthly grant will rise from R230,000 ($27,300) to R380,000 ($450,100). NFD clubs will also now reportedly "be responsible for their own travelling, accommodation and meals" (SOWETAN, 10/3).
