Chiefs As A Team Stand, Lock Arms During National Anthem

The Chiefs "made a demonstration of their own" today as discussions around the NFL "continue to abound" regarding 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick's refusal to stand during the National Anthem. Before their game against the Chargers, the Chiefs' entire team "linked arm-in-arm on the sideline." CB Marcus Peters, who stood at the end, "also raised his right fist in the air" (KANSASCITY.com, 9/11). Peters on Friday expressed his support for Kaepernick, said, "I'm going to back him up" (ESPN.com, 9/11).

Seahawks WR Doug Baldwin yesterday in a video posted to Twitter revealed that the team plans to "link arms in a show of unity" during the National Anthem today. QB Russell Wilson later on social media wrote, "We are linking arms to stand up for Social Justice, Love & Peace for All" (SEATTLE TIMES, 9/11). Seahawks management "supported the locker room's efforts to take a stand against social injustice in whatever manner they chose to do so, and key veteran leaders kept coach Pete Carroll apprised of their plans as they evolved into this final decision" (CBSSPORTS.com, 9/11).
