Weekend Rap .... Latest News .... Long Road To Ruin?

Rodriguez Gets Longest Penalty Ever For PEDs, Vows To Continue Fight

Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez "must serve a full-season, 162-game suspension -- plus the 2014 postseason -- for his involvement" with the Biogenesis scandal, marking the "longest penalty ever given" to an MLBer for using PEDs. The decision, announced yesterday by independent arbitrator Fredric Horowitz, "represents a reduction from the initial 211-game suspension" imposed by MLB, but it is "nevertheless a clear loss -- perhaps a career-ender" -- for Rodriguez. Still, Rodriguez' lawyers are "expected to ask for an injunction to prevent the suspension from being enforced until the lawsuit has played out" (N.Y. POST, 1/12).

The Weekend Rap looks at back page sports covers from N.Y. papers to see how the story is playing:

The segment "reveals how much it cost Rodriguez to do business with Bosch -- $12,000 a month, according to the report -- and says that Bosch personally injected Rodriguez because 'Alex is scared of needles.'" Bosch in the interview said that Rodriguez' associates "intimidated him to try to prevent him from cooperating with MLB in its investigation, a claim Manfred took seriously" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 1/12).
