Disney Earnings: ESPN's OTT, Skinny Bundle Strategies In Focus

Disney reports Q2 earnings after the market closes today, and investors "will be paying more attention than ever to the media giant's huge but challenged television business" (WALL STREET JOURNAL, 5/8). Investors "will want an update from Disney on how ESPN is charting a path to remain dominant" (L.A. TIMES, 5/9). ESPN is the "most important part of Disney’s 'media networks' business." As "traditional cable struggles, Disney has signed onto several low-priced 'slim' internet-TV bundles and is working on its own 'over-the-top' digital product that is expected to launch later this year." Those deals "should help stabilize ESPN’s performance" (WALL STREET JOURNAL, 5/9).
