MLB Owners Meetings: Mariners' Ownership Transfer Tops Agenda

MLB owners today begin a two-day quarterly owners' meeting in Houston. Topping the agenda is the review and vote on the sale of a majority stake in the Mariners to John Stanton. The $1.4B deal, first announced in April, will see existing team investor Stanton replace outgoing Nintendo of America Chair & CEO Howard Lincoln atop the team’s organizational chart. Stanton’s acquisition marks the first transfer of a majority stake of an MLB team since the Padres were sold to the Ron Fowler-led group in '12, marking the longest gap between franchise sales in nearly 40 years.

Owners also will review last week’s sale of a 33% stake of BAM Tech to the Disney, as well as ongoing labor negotiations with the MLBPA.
