U.S. Open Sponsors Activate With Print Ads Around Start Of Tourney

The U.S. Open gets underway today in Flushing Meadows, and marking the occasion are a bevy of print ads in national papers. The N.Y. Times includes a full-page ad for Mercedes-Benz featuring Roger Federer – "Doing one thing well is exceptional. Doing everything well makes you a legend" – as well as a full-page effort from Lavazza touting its status as the tournament's official coffee. Also in the Times, Citizen runs a half-page ad featuring Victoria Azarenka and noting it is the official U.S. Open timekeeper: "Better Starts Now." Tag Heuer, while not a tournament sponsor, runs an ad in the Wall Street Journal featuring Maria Sharapova, who yesterday withdrew from the tournament: "#DontCrackUnderPressure."

Meanwhile, today's Google Doodle is an animation of an "o" and a "g" playing tennis (THE DAILY).
