NFL Owners To Hear L.A. Stadium Plans; Chargers Slam S.D. Proposal

By Daniel Kaplan

The Chargers and Raiders today outside Chicago present their plans for a Carson, Calif., stadium to full NFL ownership, while Rams Owner Stan Kroenke offers his vision for his stadium in Inglewood, Calif. The full ownership meeting today is called for the express purpose of updating owners on L.A. No decisions are expected, though owners are expected to hear plans on a potential seat deposit program in L.A, and an assessment of potential relocation fee values.

The Chargers' top outside environmental counsel, George Mihlsten, yesterday told key NFL owners that the city of San Diego’s stadium plan is “doomed to face years of litigation,” according to Chargers Special Counsel Mark Fabiani. Mihlsten, an attorney with Latham Watkins, re-emphasized the team contention that the city’s stadium plan relies on too short a period for environmental review that will surely get thrown out in court. The city presented to the six-owner Committee on L.A. Opportunities, which is overseeing the expected NFL relocation to L.A. by next year.

MLS Delegation Visiting St. Paul To Talk Expansion Team's Venue

MLS President & Deputy Commissioner Mark Abbott plans to arrive in St. Paul today with other league officials to meet with Mayor Chris Coleman about the "potential" of a 34.5 acre stadium site between I-94 and University Ave. Residents and businesses "will air their views" from 6:00-8:00pm CT at Midpointe Event Center. They are "concerned about adding congestion to the heavily trafficked area, the financial burden of a new stadium and whether the community could use the facility" (Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE, 8/11).

Cavaliers To Announce Partnership With In-Venue App Tap.in2

Cleveland-based in-venue app platform Tap.in2 today will announce a partnership with the Cavaliers, officially launching into the sports and entertainment industry. Tap.in2 allows fans to purchase and receive food, drinks, merchandise and in-game experiences from their mobile devices to their seats in less than six minutes. The company’s technology can be integrated into existing team and venue apps, as it was during a pilot run of 22 Cavs games last season.

Tap.in2 co-Founder & CEO Jordan Syms said that the in-seat program streamlines the process for Quicken Loans Arena vendors and Aramark employees, who are tasked with delivering the orders. He explained, “Now instead of looking for sales, they’re delivering to people who have already completed the sale.” Syms added that Tap.in2 will be expanding into the NFL, NHL and NASCAR over the next couple of months.
