Sources: Titans, Nissan Agree To Stadium Naming-Rights Deal

Sources said that the Titans today will announce a stadium naming-rights deal with Nissan North America in which the team will "name its home venue Nissan Stadium." Financial terms of the deal were not immediately available, but sources indicated that it is an "exclusive 20-year partnership between the two parties." Rebranding of the facility, known as LP Field since '06, is "expected to start immediately" (Nashville TENNESSEAN, 6/25).

College World Series Breaks Total Attendance Record From Last Year

The College World Series wrapped up last night with Virginia's 4-2 win over Vanderbilt, and the tournament set a total attendance record of 353,378 in 17 games, breaking the previous mark of 347,740 set in '14. However, there were "plenty of seats available" at TD Ameritrade Park for last night's championship series finale, as the "outfield's general admission bleachers weren't even half full." Attendance was 17,689, the "lowest for a winner-take-all game" since the CWS adopted the current format in '03 (OMAHA WORLD-HERALD, 6/25).

In the CWS' fifth year at the downtown ballpark, "the event and location really seemed to work." Fans "have figured out where to park, where to eat, where to find a beverage" (OMAHA WORLD-HERALD, 6/25).

Tony Ressler-Led Hawks Ownership Group Set For Introduction

The Hawks today will formally introduce the new ownership group led by Ares Management Chair, co-Founder & CEO Tony Ressler during a 11:00am ET press conference at Philips Arena. Ressler and another member of the group, former NBAer Grant Hill, "will be at the press conference," which will be televised by SportSouth and streamed on the Fox Sports Go app. The transition ends an "11-year controversy-filled tenure" or the previous ownership group, formerly known as Atlanta Spirit. The sales process began in September (ATLANTA JOURNAL-CONSTITUTION, 6/24).

Quebecor Confirms Plans To Bid For NHL Expansion Franchise

Media company Quebecor shortly after yesterday's formal announcement that the NHL is opening expansion bidding next month confirmed that it "plans to apply" for a franchise in Quebec City. Quebecor is among "several groups that have expressed interest" in an NHL expansion team, "along with Las Vegas, Seattle, Toronto and others." NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman said that he "didn't know if there was another group interested in bringing a team to Quebec" (GLOBE & MAIL, 6/25).

Meanwhile, venture capitalist Graeme Roustan "declared he will throw his hat in the ring to acquire a second team" for the Greater Toronto Area. Roustan already has "tried to build an NHL-caliber arena in suburban Toronto" (THEHOCKEYNEWS.com, 6/24).

Blackhawks' Toews, Kane To Appear Together On EA Sports' "NHL 16"

EA last night announced during the NHL Awards Show that Blackhawks C Jonathan Toews and RW Patrick Kane will appear on the cover of EA Sports’ “NHL 16.” This marks the first time the game's cover will feature two teammates, as well as the first appearance of the Stanley Cup. Toews and Kane are shown on-ice holding the Cup shortly after defeating the Lightning earlier this month. The teammates become the first players to appear on the games’ cover twice – Toews graced the front of "NHL 11," while Kane had the honors for "NHL '10" (THE DAILY).

Nike Likely To Outpace Analyst Expectations For Q4 Financials

Nike reports its Q4 financial results this afternoon, and the company is "expected to outpace Wall Street's expectations in terms of quarterly profit and sales, thanks to strong demand for athletic apparel and Nike's e-commerce business." The company also can "expect a boost" in Q4 revenue from Nike's "strong sponsorship presence" at the '15 FIFA Women's World Cup, along with a "recent exclusive merchandising deal signed with the NBA" (FORTUNE.com, 6/25).

RiskReversal.com co-Founder & Editor Dan Nathan said Nike is a “premium company with a premium brand and it’s got a premium valuation, but it’s also priced for perfection.” He said if there is “any downward guidance, I think you’re going to see the stock at $100 very quickly” after earnings are announced. Private Advisor Group Chief Market Strategist & Dir of Advisor Advocacy Guy Adami: “You can’t really bet against the stock.” But Brian Kelly Capital LLC Founder & Managing Member Brian Kelly said, “In this space, I would rather go with Under Armour. That to me is the better player” (“Fast Money,” CNBC, 6/24).

Panini Signs Several Top NBA Draft Prospects To Trading Card Deals

In preparation for tonight’s NBA Draft, Panini has signed a bevy of projected top picks, including Karl-Anthony Towns, Jahlil Okafor, D’Angelo Russell, Emmanuel Mudiay and Jerian Grant. In addition to the exclusive rights to produce autographed NBA trading cards, the deals also involve autograph trading cards for Panini collegiate products, packaging rights and other marketing rights, including social media activation.

The rookies will appear in Panini’s '15-16 NBA products, including its first NBA product – Hoops, which will be at mass retail and hobby stores in October. Rookies also will appear in Panini’s first collegiate basketball product, also slated for an October release. Digital trading cards of each player will be released on Twitter and Instagram as they are drafted tonight.

NFL Holding Event In DC On Technology's Role In Player Safety

The NFL today will hold an event at the U.S. Capitol titled, "Gizmos, Gadgets and America's Game: How Technology is Advancing Health and Safety in the NFL." The session will address how the league is utilizing the latest tech to prevent and diagnose injuries, such as concussions, as well as fund research into developing that technology. Presenters will include NFL Senior VP & Chief Information Officer Michelle McKenna-Doyle and former NFL Physicians Society President Dr. Matthew Matava (NFL).

The Univ. of Tennessee BOT will meet today, and the school’s “plan to eliminate the Lady Vols nickname in all women’s sports other than basketball remains off the agenda.” Several state legislators had “asked the board to reconsider the school’s decision” (AP, 6/24).

The Jackie Robinson West Little League has filed "a lawsuit against Little League’s governing body," which "stripped the Chicago league of the national title after it was found to have used players who lived outside the league’s boundaries" (USATODAY.com, 6/24).

ESPN’s Keith Olbermann called out his “world’s worst” persons in sports: Indians manager Terry Francona for admitting to eating 17 popsicles in lieu of chewing tobacco. Olbermann also put on notice Twins Ps Glen Perkins and Brian Duensing for pranking their teammates, and the Cubs fan, “joining the list of idiot parents,” who caught a foul ball with his bare hand while holding a baby in the other.

Morning Hot Reads: Planning Stages

The ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH reports three civic leaders "began planning for a new football stadium months before" Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon "announced his two-man task force." The trio was "quietly, privately e-mailing and meeting by at least July of last year."

The BOSTON GLOBE notes the NBA's one-and-done rule "has provided mixed results in terms of successful players," but according to the league and the NBPA, "it's not a pressing issue." However, Commissioner Adam Silver "believes there's an advantage to remaining in college."
