Belichick Discusses Deflategate With Letterman: "I Learned A Lot"

Patriots coach Bill Belichick appeared on CBS’ “Late Show” last night, and host David Letterman introduced him with the phrase “football greatness.” Letterman added before Belichick came on-stage, “Then there was that kerfuffle ... about the footballs, which at the time I knew was a load of hooey.” Letterman asked, “You pretty much extinguished my Colts. How do you feel about that?” Belichick: “Well, it was only a 38-point win.” Letterman noted, “If you think about it, the schedule, the commitment and what people put into it, the coaches, everybody, the players, it's a ridiculous thing to do for a living, isn't it?” Belichick: “It is, but it beats working.”

Belichick said after Deflategate became a story, “I learned a lot in the next few days. I never realized there were so many Patriots fans that were scientists and physicists and college professors that understood it that well. We learned a lot in a hurry. I should have gotten a college credit for that.” Letterman: “I know you know exactly what happened, you know I know you know exactly what happened, and what it was was some kind of horse play. Am I right?” Belichick said very deadpan, “No” (“Late Show,” CBS, 2/11).
