Network News Shows Cover NFL's New Domestic Violence Policy

The NFL's new, tougher policy on domestic violence was teased in the opening segments of CBS' and NBC's evening news shows, and all three network news programs aired reports. NBC led its broadcast with the new policy, with NBC's Lester Holt noting the "outcry was loud and it was heard," as Commissioner Roger Goodell issued a "big apology and turnabout by the NFL" ("Nightly News," NBC, 8/28). CBS' Jim Axelrod said, "In announcing a new tougher stance on domestic violence ... Goodell took responsibility for being too lenient in a high-profile domestic violence case involving (Ray Rice)" ("Evening News," CBS, 8/28).
