Laugh Track....Staying On Message

NBC’s Jimmy Fallon: “Houston Texans running back Arian Foster, he was at training camp yesterday and decided to take some questions from reporters after practice. It seemed like he really put a lot of thought into each answer. Take a look at this.” A clip was aired of Foster answering four separate questions with a variation of the same answer, “I'm just out here trying to be the best teammate I can be.” Fallon: “I’d hate to be stuck in an elevator with that guy” ("The Tonight Show,” NBC, 7/31).

ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel: “Arian Foster, he’s a running back for the Houston Texans, was interviewed by a group of reporters after practice yesterday. I'm not sure that interview was the proper word to use. Let’s just say they asked him questions and he responded.” The Foster clip was aired. Kimmel: “I believe they call that staying on message. If I was one of those reporters, that interview would never stop. I would ask him 10,000 questions until one of us gave up” (“Jimmy Kimmel Live,” ABC, 7/31).

Comedy Central’s Jon Stewart discussed the NFL’s punishment of Ravens RB Ray Rice. A clip was played of NFL VP/Labor Policy & Government Affairs Adolpho Birch’s appearance on ESPN Radio’s “Mike & Mike” in which he said, “I think it's absolutely clear to all involved that the NFL does not condone domestic violence.” Stewart said, “Absolutely clear to who?… To be clear, the NFL suspends your twice as long if what you hit is this.” A picture of a bong was shown. Stewart: “This case probably wouldn’t even be getting the attention it has if it wasn't caught on camera. The only reason the NFL even flagged it is because we had instant replay” ("The Daily Show With Jon Stewart," Comedy Central, 7/31).
