Azerbaijan is “set to host” an F1 grand prix in ’15 or ’16 after signing a deal with Bernie Ecclestone. The deal to host the race in Baku was “facilitated” by former F1 team Renault Managing Dir Flavio Briatore (GUARDIAN, 3/5).

The Columbia, S.C., City Council last night voted 4-3 to authorize a contract to build a publicly funded $35M minor league ballpark “despite months of increasingly vocal disagreement from residents and reluctance among a council minority” (Columbia STATE, 3/5). The city has been without a minor league baseball team since '04 (THE DAILY).

Mile High Sports Radio is “scheduled to return to the air” today on Denver-area KWDI-FM. The sports programming will no longer be aired on KCKK-AM, which has been off air the past two days “while engineers made the FM signal switch” (DENVERPOST.com, 3/5).

Tuesday marked the 100th anniversary of the groundbreaking ceremony "at Clark and Addison streets on what would become Wrigley Field." The event featured "moving picture crews, a band, reporters, photographers, dignitaries and from 2,000 to 4,000 people," according to various newspaper accounts (SUNTIMES.com, 3/4).
