Procter & Gamble Launches Main Ad Campaign For Sochi Games

IOC TOP sponsor Procter & Gamble today launched its main ad campaign for the Sochi Games, "seeking a more modest return" than from the '12 London Games. It is estimated P&G's London efforts gave it a $500M sales boost, "but is targeting around a third of that figure" from this year's Games, "as fewer nations take part in the Winter Olympics." The focus of the campaign, featuring "clips of sports such as skating and skiing to be shown in TV commercials and online," will be on countries such as Russia, China, the U.S., Canada, Germany and Poland. The “Thank You Mom” theme will return (REUTERS, 1/6).

Packers Draw Record Lambeau Playoff Crowd Despite Extreme Cold

A crowd of 77,525 was on hand at Lambeau Field for yesterday's 49ers-Packers NFC Wild Card game, a playoff record for the venue. The team "did not sell out the game until last Friday," but there were "few empty seats throughout the stadium." The cold weather "was a business boon for the team as fans waited in long lines at merchandise stands" to buy "anything they could to help keep warm." There were also "long lines at most concession stands" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 1/6).

During the game broadcast, Fox' Troy Aikman said of the Packers needing an extension to sell out the game, "It gets your attention when Lambeau doesn't sell out" (Fox, 1/5).

David Beckham Again Will Star In H&M Super Bowl Spot

H&M today announced it will again run a Super Bowl ad featuring David Beckham. The 30-second ad will air during the second quarter, promoting the David Beckham Bodywear line. Viewers with select Samsung Smart TVs will be able to buy pieces from the new line during Fox' Feb. 2 Super Bowl telecast. H&M as part of the campaign starting today will run a giveaway via Facebook and in-store, and Beckham will make his first appearance at H&M's new Times Square store.

Meanwhile, Wonderful Pistachios announced that Comedy Central's Stephen Colbert will star in two Super Bowl spots for the brand. This will be Wonderful Pistachios' second consecutive appearance as a Super Bowl advertiser. Colbert has reached a full-year agreement to endorse the brand (THE DAILY).

Daytona Renovation Project Pauses For Race Preparations

Barton Marlow, the primary contractor on the Daytona Int'l Speedway renovation project, today will "turn the track back over to Speedway personnel, who will begin the prep for race season." The company for the last two months "has worked on parallel projects" with the "Daytona Rising" steel structure and "preparing the main grandstand construction zone for waves of race fans." Once all racing is completed March 15, construction will resume and "reach hyper-drive in August" (Daytona Beach NEWS-JOURNAL, 1/5).

Source: Bills, Rogers Media Reps Set To Meet In Two Weeks

A source said that Bills and Rogers Media representatives are "scheduled to sit down together during the week of Jan. 12." The exact reason for the meeting is unknown, but it is "likely" that the "purpose is to discuss the future of the disappointing" Bills Toronto Series, in which the team annually plays one of its eight home regular-season dates at Rogers Centre. A Bills spokesperson denied that a meeting had been set, saying, "We have nothing scheduled at this time" (TORONTO SUN, 1/4).

Laila Ali Featured In New Campaign For Activia Yogurt Brand

Laila Ali is one of three new endorsers for Dannon's Activia yogurt, which today is scheduled to break new ads in which it replaces Jamie Lee Curtis as the face of the brand. The ads also feature a new theme: "Activia tummies. Happy people," along with the new tag line, "Feeling good starts from the inside." Dannon VP/Marketing Jeffrey Rothman said a key part of the new effort is to make Activia "relevant to a broader audience" of "everyday people" (N.Y. TIMES, 1/6).
