Port Of Seattle Urges Caution On Planned Arena Project In Sodo

Port of Seattle Commissioners yesterday passed a motion "in opposition of the pending agreement to build a new sports arena" in the Sodo district, saying that the city "should conduct a comprehensive study before committing public funds to the project." The commissioners "unanimously made official their concerns" that a new arena "would result in extra traffic in the area, clogging trucking routes, raising shipping costs and causing customers to move operations to other ports." The port is recommending that the Seattle City Council delay its vote "until a full environmental impact study is completed" (SEATTLEPI.com, 8/7).
