Dodgers' Ownership Situation Causes Uncertainty Around Franchise

MLB free agency began at 12:01am ET this morning, and several player agents said that they "didn't expect the Dodgers to be significant players in the free-agent market" following the news Owner Frank McCourt will sell the team. Dave Stewart, who represents Dodgers CF Matt Kemp, said, "There's a lot of uncertainty, a lot of questions." (Kemp is eligible for free agency at the end of next season.) The news of the impending sale "has resulted in more confusion in what already felt like an unstable environment." Several team employees said that they "had no idea how the franchise would be affected in the coming weeks and months" (L.A. TIMES, 11/3).

Meanwhile, California state Rep. Janice Hahn is scheduled to hold a news conference today to "talk about the need for federal legislation to allow public ownership" of an MLB team. Hahn is proposing an ownership model similar to that of the Packers (L.A. DAILY NEWS, 11/3). Also, Red Sox Chair Tom Werner said that he is "not interested" in owning the Dodgers. This despite a "big buzz" that Werner is "definitely interested in making a run" at the team (BOSTON HERALD, 11/3).
